Beggers are rather common esp along the five-foot way along Sin Liang supermarket and the entrance of Imperial Mall shopping complex. Some even approached when having meals at coffee-shops. Initially i would contribute a little..but as time passed, i noticed that some of them are just plain lazy to WORK for a living. After they are not crippled or anything... why beg? One particular lady sat down at my table and begin telling me her sad sad sad story..abt how her then 5-6yr old son was diagnosed with a very rare liver condition and that he would not live long unless he seek specialist treatment. Haha, being conned (many time already) i kinda hmmmed here and there, and then i asked for proof of the diagnosis.. U KNOW WHAT!!! she managed to produced a blurred photocopied surat akuan ...dated a long time back. After a quick mental calculate, her son (if alive) would have been 28 years old this year.
"Is he still alive?" i asked.
"Yes."
"so, where is he now"
"In Sibu."
"Is he still sick or wat?" "Is he able to support himself?" "Working?"
"Yes, he is working......................but he still need medical treatment........if not he will not make it........ You see his dad and i broke off after our son was diagonsed with this rare condition, and he now has a mistress and here i am doing my best as a loving mother to seek and raise fund for his medical expenses...bla bla bla"
Well..my lunch was getting cold, and i was running late so i just folded up RM20, and pressed it into her palms. She thanked me and moved away.... TO THE TABLE NEXT TO MINE and (hehehehe) began her 'story '........
Hopefully the money that she 'solicits' will be put to good use......
There are times, when i struggled should i or should i not give??
